In New York City, buildings account for approximately two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions. The current Mayor, Eric Adams, and his predecessors pledged to address these emissions as part of plans to make the city carbon neutral by 2050.
In 2019, the city enacted Local Law 97, requiring most buildings larger than 25,000 square feet to meet new greenhouse gas emission limits by 2024. Stricter limits will be coming into effect in 2030. The goal of these aggressive sustainability targets is to reduce the emissions produced by the city’s largest buildings 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050.
iLOQ’s battery-free electronic smart-locking solutions have been safely and efficiently securing residential properties in 30 countries throughout Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Designed with sustainability in mind, the portfolio of battery- and cable-free, and keyless solutions also includes an ANSI-compliant product family for the North American market.
Access rights are programmed using our cloud-based software and sent as “phone keys” remotely and in real time to iLOQ’s app running on a resident’s smartphone. They can be updated as tenants move in and out and even immediately cancelled. No physical key is needed removing risks involved with lost, stolen or unreturned keys to keep levels of security in the building high.
The power for recognizing those access rights and opening a lock comes from the phone itself. Being battery free eliminates more that 220,000 pounds of unrecyclable battery waste and the time, costs and environmental impact of travelling to replace them.
“iLOQ provides the most secure and sustainable solutions in the market. With iLOQ, a smartphone acts as both a key and a power source, no batteries, cables or physical keys are needed. And our smart cylinders are easy to retrofit; there’s no need to replace doors or change your existing infrastructure. We are confident that our solutions will help New York City’s multifamily properties meet the aggressive sustainability targets of Local Law 97,” said Joni Lampinen, general manager, iLOQ USA.
