One Click LCA, an end-to-end sustainability platform for the construction and manufacturing industries, has launched the Low-Carbon Manufacturing Awards 2024. This contest offers manufacturers a platform to show the steps they are taking to decarbonize the construction industry and reach ambitious net zero goals, like the European Green Deal.
The built environment significantly contributes to global climate change and is responsible for over 50% of annual carbon emissions. These emissions stem from both embodied and operational sources. The most commonly understood source is carbon emissions from operating and using a building over its lifetime. Embodied carbon is CO2 produced from manufacturing, transporting and installing building materials — the carbon footprint of a construction project before it becomes operational. Better material manufacturing is critical in reducing embodied carbon, the company said.
With the global race for climate action ramping up, manufacturers who showcase their low-carbon practices have a chance to benefit from extensive financial and commercial incentives offered by the governments and gain a competitive advantage.
“As a major contributor to global carbon emissions, the construction industry is taking significant steps toward decarbonization. Producing and selecting low-carbon materials is the first and most vital link in the construction value chain,” said Panu Pasanen, founder and CEO of One Click LCA. “By entering One Click LCA’s contest, manufacturers can showcase the potential of their products to decarbonize the industry.”
The Low-Carbon Manufacturing Awards 2024 aims to recognize companies that have demonstrated significant progress in reducing embodied carbon through innovative practices, products, and technologies. Manufacturers of cement and concrete products, sustainable metals and alloys, green wood and fiber, advanced ceramics and glass, insulation materials and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) solutions can enter the awards. The winners will be supported by One Click LCA in several ways to further their progress in decarbonizing the construction industry.
