The NRP Group, a vertically integrated, best-in-class developer, builder and manager of multifamily housing, has appointed Nicholas O’Brien as vice president of affordable housing development in New York. O’Brien will help lead the firm’s affordable housing development efforts throughout New York State, focusing on the areas of Long Island, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley and Upstate New York. He will report to Jonathan Gertman, senior vice president of development, who oversees both market-rate and affordable development efforts in New York.

In his new role, O’Brien will identify and evaluate new affordable housing development opportunities, support transaction structuring and guide projects from early-stage feasibility through closing. With over a decade of related experience, O’Brien joins The NRP Group from CREA, a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) syndicator, where he served as assistant vice president and focused on affordable housing acquisitions and advisory work with developers. Prior to CREA, O’Brien was an associate at Northmarq Capital in Chicago, where he supported acquisitions and dispositions for commercial real estate across multiple asset classes.
O’Brien holds an MBA with a concentration in financial strategy and execution from DePaul University’s Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and a bachelor of science in finance from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
