Kaiterra Adds Sound Monitoring

Kaiterra announced sound monitoring across its indoor environmental quality platform, expanding its coverage to every major dimension of the indoor environment: air quality, thermal comfort, light, occupancy and now sound. With the addition, Sensedge Go becomes the world’s first battery-powered environmental sensor to measure the full audible spectrum, capturing a space’s sound level, how much it fluctuates and which frequencies dominate alongside the rest of the indoor environment on a single platform.

The new dedicated continuous sound monitoring module for Kaiterra’s Sensedge Go. Engineered for privacy, hardware, software and firmware safeguards ensure no audio is ever recorded, stored or transmitted.

Noise is among the most common complaints about the modern office and the least managed. Acoustics is the largest source of workspace dissatisfaction, according to a Center for the Built Environment study of more than 62,000 occupants across 617 office buildings. Yet sound is usually checked once before occupants move in and never checked again.

“Every workplace leader knows their office has noise problems. What they don’t know is when, where or why, and you can’t put a complaint like that on a work order,” said Liam Bates, CEO of Kaiterra. “Continuous sound monitoring turns noise from a vague complaint into something you can locate, explain and fix, the same way our customers already manage air quality.”

The continuous data lets workplace, real estate and facilities teams tell a steady hum from disruptive spikes, trace noise to its source, and see when a focus room, phone booth, or open floor stops performing as designed. With this data, teams can finally resolve noise complaints using evidence instead of guesswork. It also allows organizations to ground their space-planning decisions in reality and document acoustic conditions for building certifications.

Kaiterra is the first in the industry to implement privacy safeguards for sound monitoring at the hardware, firmware, and software level, meeting the requirements of the Fortune 500 organizations it serves. No audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted; the sensor is engineered so that audio capture is physically impossible.

Sound monitoring is available as an add-on for the Sensedge Go, the company’s wireless, peel-and-stick IEQ monitor with up to eight years of battery life.
