Surgery Center to Open on East 47th Street

Peter Morandi

Eastman Cooke & Associates, a Manhattan-based, mid-sized construction company, has been contracted to build the Fifth Avenue Surgery Center, a leading-edge ambulatory surgery center, at 305 East 47th St. The three-phase project entails the renovation of an existing ground floor medical facility and the build-out of the below-grade level.

“This is one of many adaptive reuse medical services facilities we have built in recent years,” says Peter Morandi, Eastman Cooke CEO. “More and more, the trend is to convert retail space into specialty medical centers. We have completed several over the years, including a multi-level ambulatory surgery center on West 51st Street, and will soon complete an endovascular surgery center in a shopping center in East Harlem.”

Designed by MBH Architecture LLC, with ME Engineering, the first floor has been gutted to construct a modern facility for future medical procedures and operations. The project encompasses building post-op areas, headwalls for beds, upgrades to the mechanical systems, new power and lighting, millwork for the nurses’ stations on both levels, the installation of new patient bathrooms and new flooring throughout the center.

The work on the Fifth Avenue Surgery Center, which is also known as the Surgicore Midtown Surgery Center, is expected to be completed in January 2022.
