Founded in 1925, real estate development, construction and management firm HJ Kalikow & Co. LLC celebrated its centennial with a reception at Club 101 for several hundred New Yorkers welcomed by company President Peter S. Kalikow as “part of our family.”

The Kalikow real estate story began when Joseph Kalikow emigrated from Russia in 1899. By the 1930s, Joseph and his sons were developing housing on large tracts of Queens farmland. By the 1950s, the family was part of the post-World War II housing boom, constructing more than 20 six-story apartment buildings.

Today, HJ Kalikow & Co. has developed millions of square feet of commercial office space and built numerous residential properties throughout Manhattan. The firm’s diverse portfolio includes luxury residential buildings, office spaces, retail centers, and mixed-use developments.

The company’s flagship property, 101 Park Avenue, built in 1982, serves as both the corporate headquarters and a reflection of the firm’s enormous success as it is home to many blue-chip tenants.

Representing the fourth generation of the Kalikow Organization, Kathryn Kalikow serves as a company principal and is involved in all aspects of the company’s operations, including property management of 101 Park Avenue.  Peter’s son, Nicholas, is also involved in the strategic direction of the company.

Peter S. Kalikow has a long career not only in real estate but in significant public service leadership roles. He served as chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) from March 2001 to October 2007; commissioner of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and was owner and publisher of the New York Post from 1988 to 1993. He currently serves as chairman of the Grand Central Partnership.

“Throughout our company’s hundred-year journey, we have helped shape New York’s future,” observed Kathryn Kalikow. “Our presence extends from Brooklyn’s classic walkups to Manhattan’s iconic skyscrapers. In the face of New York City’s perpetual transformation, HJ Kalikow has been a respected presence in its real estate, business, public policy, and civic spheres. It is a leadership role we intend to sustain as our company enters its second century.”
