Adidas and Stella McCartney have teamed with German digital manufacturer Carbon to create the AlphaEdge 4D: a sock-knit sneaker with a 3D printed mid-sole.
Carbon partnered with Adidas on its Futurecraft 4D mid-sole technology and joined forces with Stella McCartney to create the AlphaEdge 4D, made specifically for women and completely completely cruelty-free.
As reported by 3-D Printing Media, McCartney has put her own spin on the AlphaEdge 4D silhouette and color palette. The The Stella McCartney x adidas AlphaEdge 4D two-tone sneaker features a black Primeknit upper with a built-in sock feature.
Carbonʼs proprietary Digital Light Synthesis 3D printing technology has enabled Adidas to explore new avenues in its footwear production. The collaboration, which began as a conceptual exploration, quickly evolved to the point where the German sportswear brand was able to put its lattice-structured 3D printed mid-sole into mass production, according to 3-D Printing Media.
By using 3D printing, Adidas aims to improve performance and comfortability. Futurecraft 4D is made using the running data of athletes to map out the optimal parts of the midsole to provide cushioning and support.
