As one of the leading textile exporting countries in the world, Turkey showcased its most recent achievements in the industry at the 53rd NW Materials Show and the first Première Vision (PV) Sport Show. Combined, the active-wear focused shows drew in more than 500 exhibitors, buyers and major global brands with an emphasis on high-performance footwear and its associated materials.
Turkey will demonstrate its powerhouse textile industry in offering the highest quality Turkish textiles across the U.S. market, where it has accounted for 37% of overall sales, holding the top spot since 2011 thanks to ongoing R&D, innovation and a design-oriented approach appreciated across the world. International professionals and procurement committees can learn about the wide range of Turkish products ranging from knitted fabrics to technical textiles in the form of fabrics, accessories and garments also exported to around 200 countries and regions.
In the coming years, Turkey plans to participate in future PV Sport Shows to fully promote its goods in its key export markets. Turkish companies Akbaşlar Tekstil, Ekoten and Ünlü Transfer will also attend the fair and put their latest products on display.
Globally, Turkey ranks seventh in the world as an exporter with a 3.5% share in the global market. The Turkish textile industry, exporting $8.5 billion worth of products annually, is the second-largest supplier to EU countries, seconded only by China.
Turkey maintains a strong position in sports textiles especially in Europe, with a robust potential in the U.S. market. Performance-wear features demanded from sports textiles are generally different from those of similar fibers and fabrics. Sports textiles not only serve as a barrier against rain, snow, cold, heat and high stress but also meet consumers’ needs like comfort, appearance and ease of movement. Such performance demands can now be met by Turkish manufacturers thanks to advances in fiber and polymer science in Turkey, sophisticated fiber, yarn and fabric production techniques, as well as progress in finishing processes and coating / laminating.
At the NW Materials Show and the Première Vision Sport Show, Turkey’s goals include promoting its goods to boost overseas branding processes, increasing its shares in existing markets and learning more about industry best practice and strategies to build an overall stronger, more innovative textile industry around the world.
