Spring is coming (really, it is), and the city now boasts a number of new boutiques and dining spots as it emerges from hibernation. Meanwhile, some new entertainment concepts are opening just outside the city.
All About Apparel
Patagonia has come to Brooklyn, opening its shop at 70 North 6th St. which was announced last summer. Luxury clothing boutique Workshop has come to the Plaza District with a new location at 485 Madison Ave. Led by owner/designer Ron Shahar, Workshop offers custom-made women’s apparel, outerwear and accessories made from fine leather, suede, fur and shearling. Workshop is the second high-end fashion retailer to commit to the 25-story office tower in recent months.
Swiss shoemaker Le Majordome opened its first flagship store in the U.S. in November. LoveShackFancy has opened a boutique, featuring women and girl’s apparel, as well as home goods, at 113 Greenwich Ave. in Greenwich, Connecticut. Our friends at Women’s Wear Daily also report that the company’s Sag Harbor store will relocate to a much larger space before Memorial Day.
Because we’ll need some fancy outfits again sooner or later, Nova Octo, the eveningwear rental boutique, has opened a pop-up shop near Duane Park while waiting for its Bond Street store to be ready. Its first location, at 88 Laight St., closed in December.
Adorn Yourself
UNOde50, the jewelry retailer that offers limited editions of necklaces, rings and more, has opened a flagship store, featuring its new art gallery concept at 510 Broadway in Soho. The move is part of a new round of expansion into high-end malls and upscale neighborhoods as it emerges from bankruptcy in the U.S.
Food, Glorious Food
The French Cheese Board is relocating to 56 Spring St. in Nolita, announced Katz & Associates. The two-level space will feature a shop and will host cooking lessons, cheese pairing sessions, interactive presentations and more. Its new home, anticipated to open summer 2022, will serve as a beacon for chefs, artists, bloggers, foodies and cheesemakers to explore and innovate.
Lincoln Market, a regional grocery store offering online shopping and home delivery, fresh produce, prepared meals, gourmet foods and groceries, has signed a 20-year lease for 16,760 square feet at The Rowan, a recently completed 46-unit luxury condominium located at 21-31 31st St., Astoria, Queens. The three-level space will become the brand’s sixth location in New York City and the market’s first location in Queens.
Subway’s latest location is at 10 Union Square East, which also will have a new AT&T Mobility store, reports Empire State Realty Trust. The firm also signed Le Café Coffee to a location at 501 Seventh Ave. At press time, Gaia Italian Café planned to open a new location at 119 Essex Street. The beloved café closed its East Houston shop in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Wining and Dining
Gotham Bar & Grill alumna Victoria Blamey opened Mena at the Walker Hotel (28 Cortlandt Alley), her first solo restaurant. T-Bar Steak & Lounge returns to the Upper East Side at 116 East 60th St. Fast-casual restaurants continue to expand in the Herald Square area, with Pollo Campero taking space at 966 Avenue of the Americas, its first Manhattan location. On the other side of town, Jollibee is coming to 14 East 42nd St. Pine & Polk, a speakeasy/ food and beverage concept, is coming to 300 Spring St.
For Furry Friends
Petco will relocate from 860 Broadway to the other side of Union Square at 44 Union Square, best known as the former Tammany Hall headquarters.
To Your Health
Optical provider Wall Eyecare Associates will open a branch at Wall Towne Center in Manasquan, New Jersey.
That’s Entertainment
Arena STEM has opened a new STEM Education, Entertainment and Retail Center at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey. The newly redesigned center will offer more attractions, including a new Virtual Reality pavilion, a state-of-the-art DJI RoboMaster Battlefield, an expanded Drone Field, a larger Aqua Zone, a renovated on- road Drift Track and more. The facility will also offer dedicated classrooms with a curriculum to challenge curious minds and a large party room for birthday parties and private events, accommodating up to 100 people. The company’s retail selection includes a wide range of smart toys, construction sets and hobby-grade models, including those with artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Gravity Vault, a national rock-climbing facility, will open at Samanea New York, the retail, dining and entertainment complex in Westbury, New York.
