For many people, the COVID-19 pandemic brought life to a standstill. For fashion designer Talia Abbe, it became a period of reflection that would ultimately shape the foundation of her career and inspire the creation of her womenswear label, Tabbe Designs.
Founded in 2024, Tabbe is more than a fashion brand. It is a creative platform that transforms emotional research into wearable expression, exploring the ways internal thoughts and external experiences shape the human condition. Through sculptural silhouettes, vibrant colors and expressive prints, Abbe uses fashion as a tool for conversation, connection and self-discovery.
A native New Yorker, Abbe built her academic foundation with a bachelor’s in textile and fashion design and a certificate in entrepreneurship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She later earned her Master of Fine Arts in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in 2024. Her talent and entrepreneurial vision were recognized with the prestigious $25,000 Bob Fisch Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence, an achievement that further validated her unique approach to design.
Yet the inspiration behind Tabbe Designs extends beyond education and accolades. The brand was born from a deeply personal place during the isolation of the pandemic, when conversations surrounding mental health became more urgent and visible than ever before. Like many others, Abbe experienced the emotional challenges that accompanied uncertainty, isolation and disruption. Rather than turning away from those experiences, she used them as creative fuel.
The result was a brand dedicated to destigmatizing mental health and creating a more inclusive environment through fashion. Abbe recognized that clothing has the power to communicate emotions that are often difficult to express with words. Through her collections, she invites wearers to embrace vulnerability, celebrate individuality and acknowledge the complexity of human emotions.
At the heart of her work is the belief that creativity can serve as a bridge between personal experiences and collective understanding. Her designs often draw inspiration from cognitive abstraction, a concept that influences the vibrant prints and visual storytelling throughout her collections. At the same time, her voluminous silhouettes and bold color palettes evoke a sense of childlike playfulness, offering a contrast to the heavier themes that inform her work.
This balance between seriousness and joy reflects one of the most important lessons Abbe took away from the pandemic: healing and self-expression are not mutually exclusive. Fashion can be both meaningful and uplifting, encouraging reflection while also inspiring confidence, optimism and connection.
For Abbe, community has become an equally important part of the conversation. Through Tabbe Designs, she aims to foster an environment where people feel seen, welcomed and understood. Her collections are designed not only to make a visual statement but also to spark dialogue about mental health and emotional well-being.
In a fashion industry often focused on appearance, Talia Abbe is creating something deeper. By transforming personal experiences into artistic expression, she is proving that clothing can do more than make people look good; it can help them feel understood. The pandemic may have inspired the founding of Tabbe Designs, but its mission continues to resonate far beyond that moment, encouraging a future where creativity, mental health awareness and community are woven together.
