WaterField Designs, a San Francisco manufacturer of premium bags and cases, introduced the Traverse Sling, a compact 2.5-liter crossbody that combines a distinctive diagonal opening with a clean, structured silhouette. A three-quarter zipper opens the main compartment wide for an unobstructed view of its contents, while a top hood helps shield them from view by others. The zipper also forms a structural ring around the bag, helping the Traverse retain its shape even though its flexible outer walls can flatten for packing.
The Traverse Sling is offered in three material and color combinations: black EcoPak with black full-grain leather, blue EcoPak with black full-grain leather and waxed canvas with chocolate full-grain leather. Ultralight, waterproof EcoPak brings a clean, modern character, while waxed canvas offers a classic heritage look. Each version pairs its exterior material with a full-grain leather front panel for a polished finish.
“The diagonal zipper started as an exploration in form, but it ended up defining both the look and function of the sling,” said company founder Gary Waterfield. “It gave us a way to create structure without making the entire bag rigid. We also wanted the Traverse to look polished enough for work or a meeting while still feeling right for everyday use. The different materials and colors give the same design three different personalities.”
A tapered profile further distinguishes the compact sling, while a 1.5-inch adjustable strap attaches diagonally so the bag rests naturally against the chest or back. Its magnetic Fidlock buckle allows the sling to be put on or taken off without lifting it overhead. The buckle can also fasten the bag to a chair. A front quick-access pocket keeps frequently used items close at hand, while two interior open pockets organize smaller essentials and a longer interior back pocket accommodates larger flat items such as a smartphone.
