C’est Moi

C'est Moi

Designer and Stylist Rachel Neuman got a glimpse of the world of fashion after interning at Teen Vogue after graduating college. Stepping into the world of modest fashion, C’est Moi Skirts were born, offering fun prints and textures to the modern day, modest woman. Snapping and ‘gramming her #ootd at every chance, Rachel soon grew her Instagram following by showcasing her pieces along with unique styling tips. Over time, the page became a go-to for shopping, inspiration, and the next must-have modest looks. With a loyal following of regional customers, Rachel took her passion to the next level, selling basics and essentials to women everywhere— semi-formal essentials that a woman can style to be her own. Just six months after the launch of C’est Moi online, her products have reached tens of thousands of women in the U.S. With high hopes and a dream to dress women all over the world, Rachel knows this is just the beginning of a modest fashion movement.

FM: When did your collection officially launch?

RN: May 2013

FM: How did you get the idea/inspiration for your line?

RN: The brand C’est Moi originally began as C’est Moi skirts, a modest couture skirt line—fashionable and modest dress skirts mainly in prints and fun colors. As the years went by, I noticed the struggle my customers had finding basic tops to complement our couture skirts. Basic pieces are the fundamentals of the wardrobe, yet ironically they were hard to find. I then added basic tops to my collection. As that took off, I realized I had found my new niche. Before long, I turned my focus to essentials as the only thing I was selling, and I expanded my line of essential wear.

FM: What is your background in fashion and/or design?

RN: I graduated with a degree in Business Marketing/Management and a minor in Desktop Publishing. Art was something I always had in me and I wanted to channel it with my business strength. I didn’t really know where it would lead me, but I knew it was a strong combination. After a summer internship at Teen Vogue prepping for Fashion Week, I got a glimpse at the world of fashion and it piqued my interest. Starting small (just with two skirts), I created custom-made clothing, until eventually expanding into mass manufacturing, which is where I am today.

FM: What are the different styles that appear in your collection?

RN: The C’est Moi collection consists of only apparel. I like to keep it basic and timeless.

FM: What are your main fashion/style inspirations?

RN: My style inspiration comes from what I don’t have rather than what I do. When I feel I’m missing something from my wardrobe, I’m forced to create it on my own.

FM: What differentiates your line from others on the market?

RN: I pride myself in an all-encompassing basic. Comfort, quality, and essential—there’s no one without the other. These basics are also modest basics, which there is quite a demand for but quite a void. Your wardrobe staples are there for you to style as you please.

FM: How would you describe your typical customer?

RN: Women and girls of all ages who are looking for the perfect wardrobe staples that can be worn every day. I have customers across the globe, and I love seeing everyone style to their own liking.

FM: What are some of the highlights of your collection? Favorite pieces?

RN: My favorite piece is the Dolman Top because the style fits every body type and they are so comfortable! This Spring season I am launching maxi dresses in my new line, and they are made out of the same fabric as the Dolman. It is a great wardrobe staple, and a great seller too! For a night out, I love the pleated skirt and Henley top, as it is preppy and a basic.

FM: Retail price ranges?

RN: Prices normally range from about $45-$85.

FM: Where can people buy any of your pieces?

RN: Our products are sold online on our website. I also love to help my customers with styling tips and #ootd inspirations. I use Instagram as a platform for this—check us out @cestmoi.nyc on Instagram daily!

FM: What are your goals for the collection in the next year?

RN: My goal is to keep expanding my line and designing pieces that you never need to purge from your closet. What makes me happy is having a piece that sells season after season. That’s how you really know it’s an essential!
