ROW DTLA: Dine, Shop, Live

ROW DTLA

In the area of the old produce market in the heart of downtown Los Angeles lays a growing and thriving community of retailers, restaurants, and creative offices.

A hundred years ago, between 1917 and 1923, thirty acres of downtown Los Angeles on Seventh and Alameda Street was opened as a Los Angeles produce market. Formerly known as the LA Terminal Market that ran along the Southern Pacific Railroad and distributed 10 percent of the entire nation’s food products, this bustling hub has since undergone a dramatic transformation to create ROW DTLA. Within this hub of 1.3 million square feet lies six iconic buildings, one hundred unique stores, and fifteen new restaurants.

ROW DTLA has become the newest hotspot for retail, restaurants, and office space. However, ROW DTLA offers much more than shopping and dining, as the expansive area of creative space has hosted many workshops, fitness classes, festivals, pop-ups, art exhibitions, and specialty curated events since its opening. The goal of ROW DTLA creators was to create an overall lifestyle experience in the heart of Los Angeles.

Since being purchased in 2014 by Atlas Capital and Square One Capital, the location first attracted business owners for its vast creative working space options. ROW DTLA offers workers amenities including an exclusive athletic club, shuttles to the metro station and on-site parking, corporate and community events, and a plethora of dining options that have attracted many major companies to set up shop in the complex, such as J Brand, Adidas, and UBTECH robotics.

The complex has also attracted many major retailers, ranging from luxury eyewear to home décor and furniture to casual and luxury men’s and women’s apparel. Retail brands from across the globe have flocked to ROW DTLA to open a store in this increasingly popular area. Parisian contemporary menswear brand 13 Bonaparte selected ROW DTLA as their first permanent brick-and-mortar shop in the United States. Boston native footwear and clothing brand Bodega can be found amongst the restaurants and other retailers. Canadian native women’s footwear designer Charlotte Stone claimed a retail space at ROW DTLA close to her alma mater FIDM Los Angeles. Retail space is leased out through the Runyon Group, and open spaces are still currently available.

One of the featured events hosted at ROW DTLA is Smorgasburg LA, a weekly Sunday market for food, shopping, and drinks, which takes place every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The five-acre space also hosts the weekly Alameda Produce Market and features dozens of food vendors and shopping from local vendors ranging in design, craft, style, vintage, wellness, and more.

ROW DTLA is continuing to expand and offer more for both shoppers and companies occupying the space. Coming soon to ROW DTLA is Flask & Field, a wine shop and home goods retailer; coffee shop Go Get Em Tiger; and Shadowbox fitness boxing studio; among many others.
