Fashiondex, in collaboration with LIM College, which has hosted an on-campus sustainability conference for the past two years, is shifting its 2020 Fashion and Sustainability Summit to a weekly on-line series focusing on processes, practices, strategies, and solutions for fashion businesses to lead in climate change, social responsibility, environmental sustainability and circularity. The series of 20 weekly on-line conversations will be held every Thursday for 20 weeks from July 9 through November 19, 2020.
The Fashion and Sustainability Summit 2020 Series features solutions-focused conversations where fashion companies and speakers will share their work, actions and approaches to sustainability, as well as lessons learned along the way, when running a fashion business with environmental and social responsibility in mind.
Among the expert guest speakers will be Eileen Fisher’s Vice President of Social Consciousness Amy Hall; Rachel K. Lincoln, Director of Sustainability at PrAna Living; Sara Kozlowski, Director of Education & Sustainable Strategies at CFDA; Lewis Perkins, President of APparel Impact Institute; Megan Stoneburner Azim, Director of Sustainability and Sourcing at Outerknown; Lisa Diegel, Senior Sustainability Manager at Marc Jacobs; Katie Moore, Head Designer at Dr. Scholl’s; Simone Cipriani, Ethical Fashion Initiative’s Chief Technical Adviser; Eszter Csicsai, Member Engagement at Sustainable Apparel Coalition;
and Elizabeth Pulos, Social Responsibility & Sustainable Supply Chains at Macy’s.
Focusing on best practices and tangible solutions such as supply chain transparency, green chemistry, advances in technology, and zero waste design, the series will help fashion businesses lead the way in sustainability. It will explore sustainability not only from an ethical perspective, but also from a business point of view, since consumers have demonstrated that they want to do business with companies that take the health of the environment seriously.
The series’ sponsors include Ecolife Yarn by Belda Llorens, KenDor Textiles, and the Accessories Council.
In announcing the Fashion and Sustainability Summit 2020 Series, Andrea Kennedy, founder and Sustainability Lead at Fashiondex and adjunct professor at LIM College said, “Even though we are not able to hold our annual Fashion and Sustainability Summit on campus as originally planned, we knew the speakers and the topics still needed to be heard. Actions towards sustainability in fashion are urgent- and even a pandemic, could not stop the work needed to transform our industry. I’m thrilled that our 2020 weekly series will go on and will showcase brands, innovators and agents of change who are working in the sustainable fashion realm successfully as well as profitably.”
