Cauldwell Wingate has completed work on Solari NYC at 42 West 33rd Street, a new 42-story, 223-unit residential apartment building in Manhattan, located between Broadway and 5th Avenue, near the Empire State Building. Managed by The Torkian Group, the new building totals approximately 220,000 SF of floor space and is uniquely cantilevered over the neighboring building.
Cauldwell Wingate was responsible for the ground-up construction of the high-rise, which includes studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with amenity and retail space. Amenities include a spa, a fitness center, a business center and outdoor space on the third floor, as well as indoor and outdoor lounges on the 41st floor. Twenty percent of the building is occupied by low-income residents under a City-sponsored program for inclusionary housing.
Logistics of the project were complex due to the site’s proximity to Penn Station, the complex network of AMTRAK tunnels and the building’s unique cantilevering. Drilling and use of tower cranes required careful planning and utilization near the sensitive area. Work was done with minimal disturbance to the large quantity of pedestrians who continuously travel near the project.
“Cauldwell Wingate was honored to receive the contract to work on this luxury apartment building,” said Cauldwell Wingate President, Steve Jureller. “The proximity to major train lines and the necessary cantilevering of the building made construction of this project challenging and I am proud of the Cauldwell team for delivering on this project successfully.”
