Heidenberg Properties Group, owners of the Kohl’s Plaza in Colonie, New York, has executed a lease with emerging grocer Farmer’s India Market for a 30,000-square-foot specialty supermarket at the 140,798-square-foot Albany County shopping center.
“We are very excited to bring this specialty grocer to the market, as we believe it will be a great compliment to existing anchor Kohl’s. Heidenberg Properties is continually seeking to improve the tenant-mix at its properties, and we know the many benefits of adding a supermarket,” said Heidenberg Properties Vice President of Real Estate Ken Simon. “This transaction was consummated because we paired an entrepreneurial and opportunistic development company with an equally opportunistic and entrepreneurial grocery operator.”
Farmer’s India Market will replace Office Max that will vacate the center in June 2021. To accommodate the grocer, Heidenberg will expand the shopping center by nearly 6,000 square feet. Farmer’s India Market has three other locations in Waltham and Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, respectively, and Orange, Connecticut. The new unit will be its first in New York and the fourth location in the region.
At the Kohl’s Plaza, Farmer’s India Market will join Kohl’s and a new Sephora in addition to McDonald’s, O’Toole’s Restaurant, St. Peter’s Hospital Medical Lab, TrustCo Bank, JC Deli, Fly-to-Fit Bungee Fitness and Untapped Nutrition.
Bruce Ginsburg of Ikon Realty Group in Albany, New York, and Cory Tyksinski and Peter Kovago of Heidenberg Properties Group served as the brokers on the transaction and facilitated the deal.
