Owned and operated by Puerto Rican coffee farmers, 787 Coffee Co. will open its 14th New York City location at 72-74 Thompson Street in trendy SoHo, announced Phillips International.  787 Coffee also operates two locations in Puerto Rico. The 500-square-foot ground-floor location was secured with a 10-year lease.

“787 Coffee stands out among its peers for being owned by the growers themselves; we are excited to have them at 72-74 Thompson Street, an incredible location offering a high level of foot traffic in one of the City’s most sought-after retail hubs,” said Michael Pilevsky, co-president of Philips International.

Founded in Puerto Rico in 2014, 787 Coffee Co. is uniquely owned by the growers themselves. Unlike most other coffee shops in the United States, which buy their beans from distributors, 787 Coffee Co. has no middleman. They grow the organic coffee beans themselves in the mountains of Maricao, Puerto Rico, paying substantially higher than “fair trade” wages on an hourly basis to local workers.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding into this beautiful location in the heart of Soho,” said Brandon Pena for 787 Coffee Co. “The space is both ‘classic coffeehouse’ and heavily trafficked.  We look forward to taking our “from farm-to-cup” coffee experience to many caffeinated humans in SoHo. The freshest cup of coffee with a true Puerto Rican flavor.”

Albert Halawani and Marc Sitt of Kassin Sabbagh Realty (KSR) represented the tenant, 787 Coffee Co. in the transaction; Michael Robbins represented the landlord, a joint venture between Philips International, Centurion Realty and Norvin.
