Bakers clearly know something about patience: Butterflake Bakery, a Bergen County institution that opened its first location in 1950, will be opening a second location. The second site, located at 444 Cedar Lane in Teaneck, New Jersey (close to its existing location at 448 Cedar Lane) will be used as a commissary and as a Passover retail location. Katz & Associates’ Jonathan Greenberg represented Butterflake Bakery in the deal; NIA National Realty represented the landlord. The new space is slated to open in Q1 2023.

“We’re thankful to the community for years of patronage and we wanted additional space to meet the demand,” said Richie Heisler, owner of Butterflake Bakery. “We are thrilled with the space that Jonathan Greenberg helped procure. Its proximity to the existing store makes great sense from a logistics standpoint in general and especially for our additional output around Passover time.”

Butterflake Bakery has always been a neighborhood staple that still draws customers back from across the 50 states and abroad. The nut-free kosher bakery sells challah, authentic Jewish rye bread, coffee cake, babkas, pies, pastries, cookies, layer cakes, birthday cakes, wedding cakes and more. Butterflake remains the only local bakery left in Teaneck from many that once lined Cedar Lane, the town’s main shopping area. Butterflake became a kosher establishment in fall 1998 when it was purchased by David and Richard Heisler.

Jonathan Greenberg, director, Katz & Associates, who resides in Teaneck with his family, said, “I love what I do and it’s a bonus to work on a deal that benefits my hometown. Working with Richie Heisler to help expand Butterflake’s offering has been a blessing and I know that area residents will be excited when they hear the news.”
