The diamond-shaped masonry of a Renaissance palazzo in Italy is the main inspiration behind The Florian, a luxury rental residence that just topped out in D.C., in the junction between Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street NE, in the NoMa neighborhood.
Morris Adjmi Architects (MA) has conceived both the interiors and exteriors of the project, a 25,000 square foot complex that will comprise 388 units over 14 stories.
The building will boast a signature facade cladded in a geometric, cusp-like pattern echoing the opulent Palazzo dei Diamanti in the city Ferrara, a not just estetical but also functional shape that allow the facade to diffuse light and shadows in different playful ways, creating a vibrant mood from the very street level and throughout the building.
The project, complete with a rooftop pool and landscaped courtyards, is expected to be finished in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the first residents to move in at the beginning of next summer.
The interiors will feature elegant and colorful materials, furniture, art, and artistically derived features that are grounded in la Dolce Vita spirit of Mid-Century Italian design.
A placemaking project, the building also represents – from an urbanistic standpoint- the culmination of three years of work to connect tree-lined P Street NE with Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street, at the center of few of the most dynamic and walkable neighborhoods in DC– NoMa, Eckington, Bloomingdale, and the Union Market District.
