For the ninth consecutive year, Ariel Property Advisors presented a summer internship program to high school students participating in the Legal Outreach college prep program, which targets students from underserved communities in New York City.

Four students from Legal Outreach gained exposure to many facets of the commercial real estate industry in Ariel’s four-day immersive program. Ariel representatives from the firm’s investment sales, capital services and research groups covered a variety of topics including methods for evaluating properties and how the governmental regulatory system influences the New York City market.

“As a company, our mission is to empower communities as well as our clients,” said Shimon Shkury, president and founder of Ariel Property Advisors. “For almost 20 years, we’ve been pleased to partner with Legal Outreach, which aligns with our company’s mission and supports education by providing talented young people from underserved communities with the preparation they need to attend the country’s most competitive colleges and universities.”

At Ariel’s recent Coffee & Cap Rates event, Tamika Edwards, executive director for Legal Outreach, called up two of the Ariel interns who shared how the Ariel program helped them understand the extremely complex commercial real estate industry.

“The highlight for me is when the interns return to Legal Outreach and present what they learned to other students.  Evidently, the four-day experience not only transforms their vocabulary and knowledge base, but their perspective on the real estate industry,” Edwards said.  “As one intern said, ‘I’ll never look at a building in New York City the same.’”

Rachel Courtney, operations manager for Ariel Property Advisors, coordinated this year’s internship program and praised the students who participated. Also presenting training sessions were Ariel’s Adam Pollack and Dusan Racic, senior analysts, research;  Jake Brody, associate director, investment sales; Erik Moloney, investment sales associate; Anthony Priest, capital services associate and Waliya Ahmed, investment sales analyst. Additionally, Investment Sales Associates Karynne Campbell and Paul Monaco served as mentors for the interns.

Ariel donates all proceeds from its bi-annual Coffee & Cap Rates events to Legal Outreach and offers the internship program annually.
