Amazon is in the process of developing a fashion app that will revolutionize the clothes shopping experience, allowing customers to try on outfits with a virtual mannequin created through social media photographs.
The software will “data mine” pictures saved on a user’s phone or computer to product an augmented reality image of the person who is wearing the clothes on sale, essentially eliminating the need for shop dressing rooms.
The Telegraph writes, “The app would also analyze photographs and appointments to establish a person’s job, the climate they live in, how they spend free time and suggest outfits for upcoming events or accessories for other things they own.”
Customers will be able to search for looks, randomize outfits, and find clothes similar to what they’re seeing, among other things.
According to the patent application at the Intellectual Property Office, “If the access device determined the temperature was hot, it may be more appropriate to display warm weather clothing rather than skiing clothes. If a calendar event was entitled ‘business meeting with James’ the images showing professional wear may be selected. If it was entitled ‘dancing with friends,’ leisure or club-wear may be given preference during the selection process.”
