Patagonia, Lush, and other retailers recently shut their doors during the student-led climate strike. The companies closed to stand in solidarity with the students participating in the strikes.
“As a business with deep roots in environmental activism, giving our thousands of staff the time to get out there and demand bold action is a no brainer,” said Mark Wolverton, president and CEO of Lush Cosmetics North America. “We all share this planet, so we need to band together to sound the alarm and show our politicians that ‘business as usual’ is no longer an option. The climate crisis won’t wait, and neither will we.”
“The climate crisis is a clear and present danger to our health, our pocketbooks and our employees and their families,” said Rose Marcario, CEO of Patagonia. “Like the fake science paid for by tobacco companies that for years denied the link between smoking and cancer, denial and delay on climate is destructive to human life. Enough is enough. We need action.”
Lush cited activist Greta Thunberg as part of its inspiration to take action. Meanwhile, Marcario specifically called on JPMorgan Chase & Co., Amazon and General Motors to take more meaningful action. Marcario’s full article can be found here.
