UL Solutions, a global safety science leader, opened its newest location in downtown Chicago, underscoring the company’s historic commitment to the city.

The approximately 40,000-square-foot space is inside the 46-story 155 North Wacker Dr. building designed by the architecture firm Goettsch Partners. The location expands the UL Solutions footprint and puts the company closer to customers with a downtown Chicago presence, increases the visibility and recognition of the UL Solutions brand, broadens access to top talent and further immerses employees into the Chicago global business community, the company said.

“Our new, vibrant downtown Chicago office is our latest demonstration of UL Solutions commitment to serving our customers’ needs wherever they are and we are truly excited to return to our historic roots, helping support our region’s major developments and projects facing complex safety needs,” said Jennifer Scanlon, president and chief executive officer, UL Solutions Inc. “Expanding our Midwest footprint in Chicago from our suburban headquarters in Northbrook will enable key stakeholders here to have direct local access to UL Solutions’ world-class safety science expertise. As an organization dedicated to the mission of working for a safer world, we are experts in science-based solutions addressing a wide variety of industries, including the automotive, consumer goods, EV battery and energy and sustainability sectors.”

The new UL Solutions Chicago facility complements its 110-acre campus at 333 Pfingsten Road in Northbrook, Illinois. Home to multiple testing laboratories, staff and executive offices, the Northbrook campus has been the headquarters for the Underwriters Laboratories enterprise for 44 years after moving its operations in 1979 from its 207-231 East Ohio Street location in downtown Chicago that it had occupied since 1905.
