Avdoo recently announced the commencement of closings at Bergen in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. Designed by AD 100 firm Taller Frida Escobedo, with master planning by DXA Studio, interior design by Workstead, and landscape design by DXA Studio and Patrick Cullina, Bergen features curated amenities and beautifully crafted residences that elevate urban living and seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces.

“Bergen offers a home unlike anything else available in the market, from its talented team of designers to its generous outdoor space and amenity package thoughtfully programmed by the Bergen Collective,” said Shlomi Avdoo, Founder and CEO of Avdoo. “This is a significant milestone, and we look forward to welcoming our first residents to experience the Bergen lifestyle and community firsthand.”

The commencement of closings at the building coincides with significant sales momentum for the project, which recently surpassed 70% sold, with only XX homes remaining. This includes a $3.15 million townhouse with its own 556-square-foot private garden and a $5.3 million penthouse with a 1,339-square-foot terrace that spans nearly the entire length of the residence, both of which are available for immediate occupancy. Bergen has sold the highest percentage of units than  any other new development project in Brooklyn, a testament to its quality craftsmanship, neighborhood feel, and unique amenities that prioritize creativity and wellness and establish a sense of belonging.

“Strong buyer demand has made Bergen one of New York City’s most consistently high-performing buildings,” said Brendan Aguayo, Principal at Avdoo. “No other new development project in Brooklyn is closer to sell-out. With residents now calling Bergen home, this new community in Boerum Hill is only becoming more vibrant and desirable.”

Residences

Bergen features 105 condominium residences, with 53 unique unit types that range from studios to five bedrooms to accommodate a variety of lifestyles. Bergen blends privacy and transparency in a way that is refreshing to urban built environments. Workstead designed the residential interiors to offer an immediate sense of calm, celebrating natural light, organic materials, and simple geometric forms that complement Frida Escobedo’s angled facade and custom handmade blocks. The highly considered residential layouts feature ceiling heights up to 12 feet high, double-glazed casement windows, white oak flooring, custom-design elements, and natural materials that age well  over time. Offering the best of indoor-outdoor living, 75% of residences offer spacious outdoor living spaces, and select penthouses are crowned with private rooftops and plunge pools.

Throughout the homes, kitchens boast white oak cabinetry with custom white oak handles, a honed Taj Mahal quartzite countertop and backsplash, Workstead-designed custom pendant, and Thermador appliances. Select residences feature a custom designed wet bar clad in a China-White with white bronze hardware for entertaining. Primary bathrooms are serene with beautiful, honed Crema Vanilla marble and brushed nickel hardware, custom white oak vanities, a separate soaking tub, heated floors, and custom lighting by Workstead. The secondary bathrooms feature matte Tatami-Beige wall tiles and honed Agglo terrazzo floors and countertops, paired with a custom white oak vanity, brushed nickel fixtures, a separate soaking tub, and custom light fixtures by Workstead.

Amenities

Bergen’s highly curated collection of indoor and outdoor amenities provides communal space for residents to form connections. Over  14,500 square feet of indoor amenities are centered around health, wellness, the arts, and entertainment. The bottom floor features a wellness area with a lounge, meditation room, treatment room, and two spa suites, as well as a fitness suite with weights, cardio, and separate pilates, yoga, and boxing studios. The entertainment and media suites include a screening room, music room, and podcast room, while the higher amenity floors include a game room, club room, great room with terrace, and a chef’s kitchen.

Some of Bergen’s communal spaces have been curated by the Bergen Collective, a team of creatives that brings the property to life with rich experiences, giving residents a true sense of comfort and curiosity. A tea room in the wellness suite by Kettl, a Japan and Brooklyn-based company serving the finest Japanese teas; the creative suite features a ceramic studio by BKLYN Clay, a Brooklyn-based pottery studio that will offer resident-only workshops; the art studio by Arts Gowanus, a not-for-profit organization advocating for local artists and a sustainable arts community in Brooklyn will offer classes for residents and curate a selection of artwork for display throughout the building; two wellness consultants, Makena Diehl and Claudia Germuga, will coach resident-only fitness programming.

Residents also have access to 12,000 square feet of shared outdoor amenities, including “Dean Park” and two rooftop parks with landscaped lawn space, grills, firepits, and dining and lounge seating, all designed by DXA and Patrick Cullina. Additional amenities and services include a live-in resident manager, a 24-hour attended lobby, a pet spa, securemail and package rooms, and storage spaces for cold items, dry cleaning, and strollers. Parking, private storage, and bike storage are also available to residents for an additional fee.

Architecture

Bergen is Taller Frida Escobedo’s first condominium project, which was designed in collaboration with DXA for master planning. Rooted in materiality and porosity, Bergen blends privacy and transparency in a way that is refreshing to urban built environments such as NYC where there is often a distinct separation of the private and public domain. The building is designed to complement Boerum Hill’s neighborhood fabric, maximizing light and air through its angled facade and custom handmade blocks that vary in size and degrees of opacity. The essence of the building’s module design and materiality lies in its custom, handcrafted quality, meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of scale and timelessness. Escobedo leveraged the building’s orientation to maximize natural light from the east and west, creating a cohesive rhythm of scale, materiality, and color, with porosity and transparency woven throughout the building’s design. At its center, the “Glass House,” a curtain-walled rectangular volume, acts as the building’s entry point from both Dean and Bergen Streets, and connects both of the residential wings of the building.

Neighborhood

Surrounded by the pulsating energy of Gowanus, the leafy charm of Park Slope, the cultural hub of Fort Greene, the quaint allure of Cobble Hill, and the bustling heart of Downtown Brooklyn, Bergen embodies the essence of city living at its finest. Its proximity to landmarks such as the Barclays Center, Atlantic Yards, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum, and Brooklyn Public Library ensures a wealth of cultural and recreational opportunities at residents’ fingertips. Furthermore, access to an extensive array of subway lines, the Long Island Railroad at Atlantic Terminal, and an assortment of bus routes facilitate effortless travel within the borough and beyond.

Avdoo’s in-house team is exclusively handling marketing and sales for the building. Remaining homes start at $825,000 for a studio and reach $6.4 million for a five-bedroom penthouse. For more information on the residences at Bergen, please visit www.bergenbrooklyn.com
