In 2026, interdisciplinary design firm Hart Howerton is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Travel Fellowship Program. This milestone emphasizes the firm’s continued support for the next generation of design leaders and creatives across the globe. The program provides fellows with first-hand experience in Hart Howerton’s studio, which focuses on designing complete environments — creating places through thoughtful and innovative solutions, together with a commitment to environmentally conscious strategies.

Now accepting applications for the 2026 program, the Fellowship has been named by Architectural Digest as one of the fellowship programs paving the way for the future of architecture. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate college students in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and interior design who will be entering their final year of study in September 2026 and provides Fellows the opportunity to pursue independent research alongside a professional internship in Hart Howerton’s New York or San Francisco office.

Hart Howerton’s projects range from hospitality destinations such as The Spa at the Inns of Aurora, Four Seasons Naples Beach Club, Palmetto Bluff, Montage Big Sky and Santa Lucia Preserve, to the master plan for Hollywood Park and private residential projects around the world.

For 20 years, Hart Howerton’s Fellowship program has offered students the advantages of professional office experience, collaborative interdisciplinary design, and global travel and research through two research initiatives. The first initiative focuses on complete environments, and the innovative thinking that spans the fields of planning, architecture, landscape architecture and interior design, while the second initiative focuses on healthy living, and comprehensive design for improved health outcomes. Fellows receive generous support for their travel and research, competitive compensation for their internship, and a housing stipend in New York or San Francisco. Past Fellows have explored a diverse range of topics such as urban food networks, green roof applications, and coastal resiliency strategies, among others.

“We continue to witness such monumental growth and enlightenment within our Fellows,” said Hart Howerton Chairman David Howerton. “As we celebrate the program’s 20th year, it is inspiring to see the lasting impact they’re making in the profession. We look forward to continuing to shape the future generations of designers and stay true to our commitment of providing engaging educational tools and professional experiences.”
