Universal Builders Supply, Inc. (UBS) is pleased to announce that it has won the 2018 Safety Award for the Building Trades Employers’ Association (BTEA) of New York City for its pioneering of Smart Call wireless technology on its major construction sites throughout New York City.
“We are honored to receive the BTEA 2018 Safety Award,” said Chris Evans, President of UBS. “Safety has been our number-one priority since 1931 and we believe Smart Call is a major step in industry offerings when it comes to worker safety.”
The BTEA is committed to leadership and action on safety in the construction industry. Every year the organization recognizes a contractor who demonstrates am exemplary and industry-leading commitment to ensuring every worker goes home safely. This year, BTEA has awarded UBS the 2018 Safety Award due to their innovative Smart Call safety technology.
Smart Call’s wireless emergency system utilizes emergency boxes on every floor of a construction site to allow workers to report an emergency with the touch of a button. When implemented, Smart Call signals an alarm on the displays in each hoist car and in the construction site offices. The displays can show the exact location of the emergency and provide an interactive map with a list of emergency numbers and pre-determined first responders.
Smart Call wireless technology is also used for the operation of hoist cars. The new system uses a state-of-the-art mobile application to monitor the location of hoist cars remotely in real time. There are waterproof displays in each car that are connected to a base station on the ground and can transmit over-the-air updates and reports via a cellular provider. This streamlined procedure will vastly reduce accidents by allowing important information to be accessible and easily shared.
“It has been an honor for SmartCall to work with UBS to introduce our hoisting technology into the New York City construction market,” said Isaac Levy, CEO and Founder of SmartCall. “This technology has the potential to significantly impact traditional construction methods. We are happy to continue working with UBS to modernize this practice and help improve safety for those working in the field.”
