In response to the recent pandemic, 108 Leonard and NYAA have been working together to come up with alternative solutions to continue to provide art benefits and access through the A.I.R program. Residents will be able to have first-access to NYAA’s digital offerings.
Additionally, Tabitha hosts regular live stream drawing classes, not just residents, but for the public alike. Not only is she an amazing artist, but she is an incredible teacher with a vivacious personality — a combination that always guarantees a large turnout for her virtual drawing classes. After the classes, participants are encouraged to share their drawings with the audience.
108 Leonard strongly believes in the power of art in positive living, and during this time — we are all trying to spread as much positivity in our lives as possible.
This is the first time the Academy has partnered with a residential building to facilitate a partnership of this magnitude. As a part of the partnership, the Academy has provided patron memberships to residents of 108 Leonard that will provide exclusive access to a range of Academy events, exhibitions, lectures, personal studio tours, artist talks, dinners, and curated content.
Public displays of art will be featured onsite at 108 Leonard and throughout the amenity spaces. Featured pieces will be curated by the Director of Exhibitions for the Academy and will include pieces from the Academy’s permanent collection, current student body, and members of the Alumni Association of the Academy.
An artist-in-residency program will be conducted on site at 108 Leonard – artist(s) will have access to the landmarked marble room to work on new pieces and display previous pieces. Art produced in the building will be included in an auction event in collaboration with Paddle 8. 108 Leonard residents will receive exclusive tickets to attend the Academy’s annual events including the Tribeca Ball that takes place in April, Take Home a Nude which occurs in the fall and Deck the Walls which takes place during the holiday season.
The Academy collaborated with 108 Leonard on the created of Original Tribeca – a magazine created to showcase the cultural and culinary attractions that helped establish Tribeca as one of the most venerable neighborhoods in Manhattan. Featuring actress, Manhattan stalwart and active NYAA board member Brooke Shields on its cover, Original Tribeca represents the ever-evolving neighborhood of Tribeca from its industrial roots to what has been dubbed “Hollywood on the Hudson.”
