Big names in fashion came together to sign an agreement vowing to reduce their carbon emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Climate Change.
Announced at UN’s Poland-based conference on climate change, COP24, leading fashion lines like H&M, Target, Guess, Gap, and Burberry signed the agreement to address the impact of the fashion industry on climate change, an increasing looming threat.
The main goal of the Charter is to reach net zero emissions by 2050, with a focus on ensuring the use of sustainable materials and addressing the decarbonization of the production phase.
According to Energy Digital, CEO of H&M Group Karl-Johan Persson said, “This charter is about getting the fashion industry united in important climate work. Our industry has a global reach and only together can we create the change that is urgently needed. We are happy to be a signatory of this charter as part of our ambition to become climate positive in our value chain.”
