Jaros, Baum & Bolles (JB&B) is pleased to announce that its Associate Partner Brian Towers has been named New Principal of the Year 2018 by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York). Each spring, the organization selects a new or recently promoted principal who fosters innovation and has made significant contributions to the consulting engineering profession as well as to the community. Towers will be formally honored at the 2018 Annual Meeting held on June 6, 2018, at the Union League Club.
Forward-Looking Design Objectives
Towers met ACEC New York’s selection benchmarks with his commitment to energy-efficient, sustainable and resilient design, as well as his commendable work during recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy, demonstrating the vision to see beyond the immediate needs posed by the emergency and coming up with innovative solutions that provided a viable, environmentally secure structure. The storm inundated the city’s largest office building, 55 Water Street, flooding the lower levels with 40 million gallons of seawater. To fortify the basement level against future storms, Towers implemented a creative approach, placing the building’s fuel oil tanks in submarine vaults – a strategy that is quickly becoming an industry standard.
A Team and Community Builder
In his role with JB&B, acting as Partner-in-Charge, Project Manager and Electrical Lead on a wide variety of building types and market sectors, Towers works with clients to deliver state-of-the-art designs that meet their detailed requirements and budgets. He has played a lead role in recruiting full-time employees, interns and cooperative education students from colleges and universities throughout the area. Outside of work, Mr. Towers is active in his children’s school and is an avid runner. As a member of the New York Road Runners, he participates in at least 15 races a year to raise money for charitable organizations and has made the Polar Bear Plunge in support of the New Jersey Special Olympics.
“Our firm is committed to sustainability and innovative design. During the Hurricane Sandy recovery, Towers played an integral role in our team’s immediate solutions and creative long-term environmental preparedness,” said Managing Partner Mitchel Simpler. “His work ethic and values are an excellent representation of what our firm is all about. We are very proud to have him aboard and we congratulate him on this great achievement.”
