Award-Winning JB Clothiers Reigns Supreme as the Best Men’s Clothing Store in Los Angeles for its Handcrafted Bespoke Suits
There’s something about a man in a well-tailored suit that makes heads turn when he enters a room. Having the perfect fit has always been the most important aspect of purchasing a good quality suit. But with online retail and large department stores as the main avenues to shop for men, and even fewer options for suit alterations, it can be difficult to find a high-quality suit with the ideal fit. As someone with a strong interest in fashion and the love of a perfectly designed suit, Jerry Bakhchyan noticed the slim selections for suits and decided to learn the art of tailoring to provide a bespoke service for men who want that flawless style.
Formerly working in the banking industry, Bakhchyan wore a suit every day to work, but was dissatisfied with the styling choices offered to men. When an opportunity presented itself to him to learn from someone in the industry, he decided to make a career shift into men’s fashion and provide a personalized tailoring and design service that he believed was lacking for men in the fashion world. Bakhchyan started JB Clothiers in 1997, and right away saw how much men in Los Angeles were attracted to the idea of a suit made perfectly to their specifications and were in need of his services.
“Quality of fabrics, detailed construction, and having a correct fit are the three most important factors of a suit,” explains Bakhchyan. “This is what I not only provide my clients with their suit, but also what I educate them on so they are more informed when it comes to their own style.”
Bakhchyan personally handles every appointment from start to finish, answers every phone call and oversees every suit being made. Upon walking into his shop, the warm, musky aroma from a freshly lit candle greats customers, and as he offers you to take a seat on the velvet plush chairs, he heads over to the fully-stocked bar of premium liquors to pour you a drink. Appointments then begin with discussing the customer’s style preferences, lifestyle, and any special occasions that may be coming up. Bakhchyan uses this information to help the customer determine what style, fit, and materials may be ideal for that particular individual. After personally taking detailed measurements, Bakhchyan chooses the materials, that are sourced from the finest mills in England, Italy, and France, to create that one of a kind, perfectly-crafted ensemble for his customer.
“From the buttons and lapels to the lining and stitching to the colors and patterns, every single detail of a suit is perfectly crafted to meet the needs and lifestyle of each individual who comes to my shop,” says Bakhchyan.
Once a client leaves the shop with a high-quality, custom-designed suit, his experience with JB Clothiers does not end as the door closes behind him. With every suit purchased, Bakhchyan offers a lifetime of free alterations to ensure the personalized experience does not end after the suit is completed. Since consumer spending habits have shifted to spending money on experiences rather than material goods, Bakhchyan has developed his business around the idea that money can be spent on both merchandise and an experience, instead of choosing between the two.
“It doesn’t matter if customer is buying a single tie or spending the money to build an entire wardrobe with me, all my clients are equally important and taking the time to personalize their experience is what sets apart my business,” notes Bakhchyan.
And so his business has continued to thrive, with repeat customers coming back time and time again to have Bakhchyan build their entire wardrobe because of that personalized one-on-one styling services that he provides. After opening his first shop in 2002 in downtown Los Angeles’ fashion district, Bakhchyan has since moved to his current location on South Spring Street, where he personally designed the luxurious look and feel of his shop to enhance customer experiences.
Bakhchyan plans to continue to grow and expand his business in order to provide more options for clients, with a new e-commerce addition coming soon to his website and a goal to open a second shop.
