A beauty guide from social media star Jarry Lee
If there’s anyone who knows about how health and wellness support beauty, it’s model and social media entrepreneur Jarry Lee. With nearly 850,000 followers on Instagram alone (@jarrylee), Lee has a hand in everything from music to acting. She gained some fame from her appearance on the first season of the Netflix show “Dating Around,” and she has appeared in numerous fashion magazines and beauty campaigns, including work with Maybelline, Revlon, Estée Lauder and Lancôme.
With the number of COVID-19 vaccinations increasing in the U.S., many people are ready for a new look for a new era. Here’s what Lee had to say about staying healthy and finding the look that’s right for you.
It’s been a long year. What has your pandemic-era morning routine looked like?
I typically start off my days by taking vitamins, drinking water and hopping onto my bike desk (it’s a stationary bike attached to a desk) to do 20 to 30 miles while catching up on emails.
What do you do to keep your skin clear and clean?
Hydration is key! — as well as eating well and exercising regularly, of course. Good skincare requires living a healthy lifestyle, not just putting products on your face (although I love doing that too).
Walk us through some of your go-to products.
My faves include: Bioderma micellar water, Thayers rose petal witch hazel toner, TruSkin vitamin C serum, Cerave daily moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 night cream and collagen sheet masks. I also use a jade roller and have a mini skincare fridge from Vanity Planet to put all my products in.
As a major influencer, how do you pick out what to wear when you post?
I keep a folder of photos on my phone of all my new or favorite clothing/accessories, so I look through that to come up with outfits! (I actually used to use an Excel spreadsheet to do the same thing way back when I was in middle school, ha ha!)
What is your favorite outfit to wear this spring?
Tough to pick just one — I have a few pieces from Sister Jane’s dreamy spring collection that are delightfully whimsical.
What fashion trends do you see on the rise this season?
There’s been a rise in athleisure and loungewear (which makes sense with the pandemic), but my favorite current trend is the puff-sleeve silhouette. I love structured looks.
What do you do to treat yourself on special occasions?
I enjoy cooking elaborate meals and sometimes baking desserts (my go-to is strawberry-rhubarb pie). Massages and online shopping don’t hurt either!
What advice do you have for women trying to establish a new beauty routine?
Ask your friends who have similar skin concerns about what they’ve tried that works for them! I also look at beauty review sites to find the most-loved products to try out.
LIGHTNING ROUND:
Favorite song right now?
I’m working on recording a new song right now, does that count?
Caffeine: love or hate?
I don’t drink anything with caffeine, except the occasional bubble tea or Earl Grey — I prefer fruit juices or smoothies. Caffeine just makes me jittery, and I have enough energy naturally.
What are your go-to reads?
I read a lot of poetry collections these days. One of my favorites is “Night Sky with Exit Wounds” by Ocean Vuong.
If you could transform into an animal, which one would you pick and why?
A bengal cat so I could be friends with my bengal
cat, Potato! (@potatobengal)
Favorite cocktail?
I don’t drink alcohol, so I’d have to say a virgin Bloody Mary or any fruity mocktail.
