Limited Series Based on the Inspiring True Story of Miep Gies Premiered Monday, May 1, on National Geographic and Will Stream on Disney+ and Hulu.

National Geographic held a premiere and panel discussion at Alice Tully Hall showcasing the first two episodes of a limited series, “A Small Light.” This inspiring 8-epsiode limited series is based on the true story of a 20-something-year-old Miep Gies, who played a critical role in hiding Anne Frank and her family during the Nazi occupation in Amsterdam.

Actors Bel Powley, Liev Schreiber and the Executive Producers Susanna Fogel, Joan Rater and Tony Phelan held a Q+A panel discussion after the episodes where they discussed the inspiration of the show and the characters. Couple Tony Phelan and Joan Rater began the panel by explaining how they came up with the idea of telling Gies story several years ago from a family trip to Amsterdam. Joan stated that they wanted to keep the historic story from being outdated and to create familiarity with the characters. The night ended with a reception filled with guests, drinks and live music.

The limited series will also stream on Disney+ and Hulu, with new episodes every Monday at 9 p.m.
