Sushidelic Revitalizes its Brand to Celebrate its First Year Anniversary

Photo courteys of Sushidelic

Sushidelic is not your traditional Japanese restaurant, nor does it aspire to be.

It differentiates itself by its eclectic, immersive Kawaii experience of cuteness mixed with the Japanese Harajuku Street culture of Tokyo. Sushidelic is a joint venture between AUTEC (a leading manufacturer of commercial sushi robots that equip food service businesses globally) and Asobi Systems (an entertainment company that manages Japanese Pop artists). Designed by artist Sebastian Masuda, also known as the “Godfather of Kawaii” and responsible for Kawaii Monster Café in Tokyo, as well as the fashion label 6%DOKIDOKI to create a surreal world of maximalist design.

Upon entering Sushidelic, diners are greeted by a hostess wearing a Japanese-inspired “Monster Girl” Costume. The most prominent design feature is the three sizeable hanging cat sculptures, named Tasty, Sassy and Cute. They are surrounded by suspended lipstick chandeliers, mirrored ceilings, rainbow flooring and LED lighting, which are all part of the fun.

At the sushi bar, a custom conveyor belt circulates throughout the bar and kitchen, carrying original sculptures by Masuda, such as neon teddy bears, bejeweled red stilettos, pink bow-shaped purses and a six-course omakase named Pure Imagination. The omakase showcases unique items such as a Caviar Scallop Macaron, a sweet macaron stuffed with caviar, Hokkaido scallop, salmon roe, fior di latte, yuzu and pepper cream; Sushi Go Round, presented on a Barbie pink Ferris wheel complete with a California roll, a Wagyu Uni Roll, an Eel Avocado Roll and Nigiri (salmon, tuna and Hamachi); and the grand finale a Chirashi Parfait, a savory play on the French dessert, which includes layers of tuna, salmon and Hamachi sashimi, Ikura and seasonal vegetables over pink sushi rice.

Each dish and cocktail from Sushidelic are meticulously showcased in fun, unique presentations with a dash of cuteness. Diners will be greeted by their “Monster Girl” server and given a briefing on their experience.

One of Sushidelic’s favorite menu presentations is the colorful dipping sauces, presented on a painter’s palette with flavor profiles of  Uzu (Yellow), Spicy Mayo (pink), Wasabi (Dark Green), Ponzu Mayo (light green) Carrot-Ginger (Orange), Sesame (Black), with pink ginger.

Standout a la carte dishes include Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, spicy tuna garnished with Fresno peppers and fried garlic; Toru Taku Roll, Medium Fatty tuna, with pickled daikon radish and chives; Nigiri, salmon, Hamachi, Ebi, Yellowfin Tuna, Scallop, Uni; and Sashimi, Faroe Islands Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, Uni.

Entrees include Miso-Glazed Black Cod, marinated in Sakiyo miso; Wagyu Tataki Steak, wagyu beef served with vegetables and a dash of wasabi sauce; and Mushroom Nabe Hot Pot, assorted mushrooms, kelp dashi and ponzu sauce bathed in a vegetarian broth.

New menu items include the Harajuku Parfait Deluxe, a festive assortment of the chef’s imagination or Green Tea Cheesecake, Monaka Ice Cream Sandwich and Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse, served by a Monster Girl with a large sparkler that lights up the room.

Keeping with the Kawaii playfulness, each drink is presented in bespoke glassware. Shochu and sake-based cocktails include Lovely in Pink, a blend of Shochu and lemon soda garnished with raspberries and lychee; Sugar Plum Spritz, a mix of plum wine and Prosecco finished with cranberry, lime, rock candy and glitter; Strawberry Dreams, strawberry-infused shochu, sweet Vermouth, basil and lemon; and Matcha Tea Tini, Shochu, matcha, honey lemon and orange bitters, topped with an Instagram-able smoke bubble.

Mocktails include Indigo Stardust, lavender syrup and club soda with lemon; Zombie Love, pineapple juice, cranberry float, ginger, agave and lime; and Yuzu Soda, yuzu juice, club soda and agave.

Sushidelic is ideal for celebratory occasions and events, including social gatherings and catering.

Sushidelic has an online store and boutique in the restaurant where one can buy branded merchandise and accessories, such as Sushidelic baseball hats, tote bags, vinyl placemats and plush animals.
