Jersey Shore artist Christian Avery is currently exhibiting new work at The Art Alliance, located at 33 Monmouth Street in Red Bank, New Jersey. The exhibition is open to the public now through September 1.
Born in White Plains, New York, in 1973, Avery has been drawing and painting since childhood, a practice he describes not as a hobby but as a necessity. He spent three formative years at the California College of the Arts in Berkeley, sharpening his craft and his eye for visual storytelling. After service in the United States Army, Avery moved through what he calls a “dark decade,” a period he credits with reshaping the course of his life and art.
That turning point came through the sacred Lakota sweat lodge ceremony. What began as a path toward healing grew into deep belonging within the community. Today, Avery works as both a visual artist and a spiritual leader, and his paintings carry forward the themes of transformation, resilience and the relationship between struggle and renewal that define his own story.
This exhibition brings that body of work to Red Bank audiences, offering a firsthand look at paintings shaped by ceremony, the natural world of the Jersey Shore and a life built on creative survival.
