NYU School Of Professional Studies To Host National Symposium Of Women In Real Estate Thursday, October 19

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Schack Institute of Real Estate will host its first National Symposium of Women in Real Estate on Thursday, October 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life.

The symposium will convene women serving in senior leadership roles at the industry’s most prominent firms for a wide-ranging discussion of the real estate market outlook and the forces shaping property investment, financing, and development. The event, which will attract panelists from across the country, also serves as a critical mentorship platform for women executives and the next generation of industry leaders.

Wendy Silverstein, chief executive officer of New York REIT, will be presented with the first annual WIRE Leadership Award by conference chair Darcy Stacom, chairman and head of NYC Capital Markets, CBRE. Prior to joining New York REIT, Silverstein served as executive vice president and cohead of acquisitions and capital markets for Vornado Realty Trust, where she oversaw the firm’s capital market activities, including all equity, debt, and derivative transactions, and a variety of real estate and corporate acquisitions. Following the award presentation, Silverstein and Stacom will engage in a “fireside chat,” titled “Standing on the Glass Ceiling.”

More than two dozen of real estate’s most influential women from companies such as Blackstone; Brookfield Property Partners; CBRE; Goldman, Sachs & Co.; JPMorgan Chase & Co; Morgan Stanley, Redfin, among others, will participate in panel discussions about the outlook for capital markets and investment, financing and debt markets, construction and development, the future of cities, the status of women in real estate, and the outlook for the multifamily sector.

Noting that the symposium is one of several events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Schack Institute of Real Estate, conference host Sam Chandan, Larry and Klara Silverstein chair in Real Estate Development and Investment and associate dean for the NYUSPS Schack Institute of Real Estate asserted, “The symposium agenda features some of the most influential people in the industry debating the outlook for investment and capital flows, construction and development, and the changing urban landscape.” He added, “The industry has made progress in clearing the obstacles facing women rising to leadership roles. This symposium celebrates the contributions of real estate’s leading women but does not shy away from a hard look at where the industry lags behind.”

Alongside Chandan, Billie Gastic, associate dean for the NYUSPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies – which, in addition to NYUSPS Schack, offers an undergraduate program in real estate – serves as a conference host.

Three powerful women in real estate serve as conference chairs: Laurie Golub, formerly chief operating officer and general counsel, HFZ Capital Group; Joanne Minieri, executive vice president, RXR Realty and chief operating officer, RXR Development Services and RXR Construction Services; and Darcy Stacom, chairman and head of NYC Capital Markets, CBRE.
