Delivering Good, the charity of choice for new product donations made by companies in the fashion, home and children’s industries, today announced that it will honor retail icon Terry J. Lundgren with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary career and personal devotion to education and other philanthropic causes. Delivering Good will present Lundgren with the award at its annual gala on Wednesday, November 4, in New York City.
“Terry Lundgren’s leadership and generosity are legendary across the retail industry and the world,” said Andrea Weiss, chair of Delivering Good. “His career achievements, as well as his decades-long commitment to philanthropy, the arts, medical research and education, make him an inspiration to so many of us, and we couldn’t be more honored to recognize him this year with our Lifetime Achievement Award.”
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Delivering Good, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the charity of choice for new product donations made by hundreds of companies in the fashion, home and children’s industries. The annual gala will be on November 4 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. The event co-chairs are Stacy Berns, President of Berns Communications Group, and David Greenstein, CEO of Wonder Brands, both members of the Delivering Good board of directors. In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, Delivering Good will also honor the recipients of its Vanguard Award, Company of Change Award and Impact Award at the event. This year’s gala will focus on the ripple effect —how a single action or event can continue to influence others—especially in philanthropy and community service.
Lundgren retired as Executive Chairman of Macy’s in 2018 after serving as Chairman and CEO of the company for 14 years. A University of Arizona alumnus, he has personally established scholarships for UA students and long been an active supporter of the university, which honored him in 2005 by naming its top-flight retailing center the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing. He was also named Executive of the Year by the university in 2019.
Lundgren began his career with a division of Federated Department Stores in 1975. In 1988, he joined Neiman Marcus as Executive Vice President before being named Chairman and CEO shortly thereafter. In 1994, Lundgren returned to Federated as Chairman and CEO of the Federated Merchandising Group. He was named President and Chief Merchandising Officer in 1997 and President and Chief Operating Officer in 2003. As CEO of Macy’s Inc. (which was known as Federated Department Stores, Inc. prior to June 1, 2007), he led the company’s acquisition of May Department Stores in 2005, effectively doubling the company’s size.
Lundgren has been honored with multiple retail industry awards, including the National Retail
Federation’s Gold Medal Award. He has been acknowledged for his achievements and philanthropic efforts by numerous organizations and charities, including Carnegie Hall, MoMA, BRAG, the Fresh Air Fund, the American Jewish Committee, the Breast Cancer Research Fund, the Ovarian Cancer Society, NOW Legal Defense, the Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
