Bar carts have been a home staple since the 1950s when hosting guests required a lavish spread of classic cocktails and liqueurs. And while the classic cart phased out for a short period of time, it’s making its way back into the homes of many, but with some upgrades.
As the cart sets out for its official comeback, it’s important to have all the appropriate bar staples stocked. Here are the best necessities to make your bar cart the talk of the party.

Something for Everyone
Stock your bar cart with the basics that everyone will like. Rule of thumb: something clear, such as vodka or gin; something dark, such as whiskey or scotch; and something fun, such as a unique flavored alcohol or tequila.
Tip for the Host: Have backup bottles in case you run out or buy in bulk and transfer into smaller bottles to save space.
Classic Mixers
While its great to have a variety of mixers to choose from, it’s best to stick to the classics that will be used right away and won’t sit on the cart for too long. The best mixers to have are soda water, fruit juices (cranberry and pineapple are the most popular), tonic water, bottled lemon and lime juices, sparkling waters (LaCroix or ICE) and diet sodas.
Tip for the Host: Stock popular mixers that will be used up quickly and buy sodas by the can to avoid going flat.
The Extras
Keep on hand a couple of sweet liqueurs for those late-night treats and fresh fruit for toppers. Try Bailey’s Irish Cream, Kahlua, or any flavor Schnapp’s. Pick up some fresh fruit like raspberries, strawberries or Maraschino cherries and skewer them ahead of time with toothpicks for a sweet topper.
Mixing Tools
Any well-stocked bar cart deserves the proper mixing tools to concoct the perfect drink. And while you may not be a professional bartender, these tools are sure to make you look like one.

Cocktail of the Night
Having the basics for your bar cart is a must, but having ingredients for a special cocktail of the night is even better. Wow your guests by looking up a fun new drink and having all the ingredients on hand. Try a classic such as an Old Fashioned or have fresh ingredients for an herb-infused Mojito.
