Met Museum Now Requiring Mandatory Admission Fee

The Metropolitan Museum of Art officially requires non-New Yorkers to pay an admission fee of $25 while still allowing in-state New Yorkers to provide contribution of choice.

The museum announced its plans for admission fees back in January as it battled with recent budget woes, noting that students from New Jersey and Connecticut will also receive a waived fee at the museum.

The admission fee, which went into effect early this week, will only impact about 31 percent of visitors, according to a statement The Met released.

However, some people aren’t convinced the new policy is necessary. Just following its new policy announcement a Care 2 Petition was launched and has since garnered 27,000 signatures in efforts to get The Met to ditch admission fees and remain affordable.
