685 First Avenue’s Architectural Presence In Midtown East

Sales have commenced at 685 First Avenue, The Solow Building Company’s highly-anticipated luxury residential tower in Midtown East.  Rising 43 stories above the East River, 685 First Avenue offers a collection of 148 one- to four-bedroom condominium residences, priced from $1.495 million to over $10 million.  Perched on the top 16 floors of the building, each home provides breathtaking views of the East River or city skyline.

“The development of our first condominium was an important milestone for our firm,” said Sheldon Solow, founder and CEO of The Solow Building Company—who is joined by his son, Stefan Soloviev, in the construction of the tower.  “We are proud that 685 First Avenue offers meticulously-designed homes with sweeping, iconic views, as well as a thoughtful and comprehensive suite of amenities.  In the design and construction of this tower, no detail was overlooked.”

685 First Avenue’s sleek black glass curtain wall is a Solow Building Company trademark. The river-facing side of the 460-foot tower is punctuated by a clear-glass recess that creates spectacular duplexes with outdoor terraces on the 28th and 29th floors. This architectural detail will glow softly in the evening. The western façade is defined by a glass screen that provides privacy for residence balconies while still allowing abundant natural light.

The black glass was carefully sourced to provide optimal effect for the buildings design, and is the smoothest surface quality on the international market.

“Minimalistic in form, the architectural presence of 685 First Avenue is derived from its materiality of black glass and all its details.  We believe the building will become a significant addition to the Manhattan skyline,” said Dukho Yeon, associate partner at Richard Meier & Partners Architects, the lead designer for the building.

In contrast to the tower’s striking black exterior, residence interiors reflect a white color palate.  White oak floors are found in all homes and the open kitchens boast white Calacatta Lincoln marble counters, Dornbracht fixtures and Gaggenau appliances clad in custom-crafted Italian white lacquer.

Not only beautiful, residences at 685 First Avenue are also technologically advanced. Each is equipped with a built-in Crestron ‘smart home’ system that regulates temperature, lighting, and the motorized window shades. These functions can be seamlessly controlled by residents through any iOS or Android device. All homes are also pre-wired for integrated audio/video setups.

Residents will have access to an array of services and amenities, including a 70-foot indoor lap pool, sauna, steam room, fitness center with private training studio, resident lounge with billiards table, children’s play room, and screening room. The tower also features a porte-cochère and underground motor court that provides the security and convenience of private, direct building access.

“Solow is bringing an elevated living experience to Midtown East,” said Jodi Stasse, EVP of New Developments for Citi Habitats, the exclusive sales and marketing agent for the property. “The firm is renowned for its exceptional quality in property finishes and design and unparalleled service.  685 First Avenue is a much-needed offering on Manhattan’s East Side.”

The anticipated completion date for 685 First Avenue is early 2019.  The sales gallery, located at 300 East 42nd Street, is now accepting appointments.
