Historic Murray Hill Townhouse On The Market For $6.15 M

A historic Murray Hill Townhouse that was formerly cited as an illegal hotel is back on the market for $6.15 million. Oxford Property Group’s Jules Borbely has the Exclusive Listing.

The five-story, 5,750 square foot townhouse at 124 East 37th Street with eight bedrooms and nine baths, was built in 1910. The recently renovated property features three duplex units – each with their own outdoor space — that can used as two-family home with an additional unit for office/commercial.

The vacant, 19-ft. wide three-unit building sits on a beautiful tree lined street townhouse block between Park and Lexington Avenue in the Murray Hill Historic District with rooftop views of the Empire State Building.

Oxford Property Group’s Jules Borbely said his company has collaborated with the townhouse’s owner, CLAC America II which has invested over half a million dollars to renovate and restore the historic façade and interior with new flooring, kitchen, baths and new furniture which can be included in the sale.

“Over the last 24 months we have worked closely with the owners to restore the townhouse to appeal to modern buyers today who are looking for a great investment, unique live work opportunity with first floor retail/office , or want to convert to a single family townhouse. It’s very unique in that a buyer could run their business from the ground floors and live in the upper four remaining floors,” said Borbely, who pointed out it was previously listed with Platinum Properties for $6.59 million in 2015.

The townhouse’s owners CLAC America II purchased it in 2014 with a tenant in place, Sky Worldwide who was hit with a complaint that it was being used as an illegal hotel. After closing on the property, CLAC America II terminated the lease in order to renovate and upgrade the townhouse.
