SoHo is known as a destination for art galleries, street fashion, character and edge in Manhattan. The Dominick hotel on Spring Street officially launched, “The Street Art Suite,” in collaboration with Paul Richard, one of the city’s best-known artists. The Street Art Suite – a re-imagined Landmark Sunset Penthouse – pays homage to NYC’s most celebrated art form and offers guests the opportunity to turn their own portrait into a lasting piece of sidewalk art.
The Street Art Suite, is a 1700-square-foot, two-bedroom Penthouse, on the hotel’s 44th floor. Wrap-around, floor-to-ceiling windows frame gasp-worthy unobstructed views of the city. Walls, floors and more act as Richard’s canvas to bring his definable aesthetic into the suite. Serving as an in-residence gallery for Richard’s work, The Street Art Suite will show original pieces, including a drip painting on a reclaimed door, altered NYC street signs and ironic oil paintings. The Street Art Suite collection will rotate often and all pieces are available for sale through The Dominick and Richard’s gallerist.

Guests who book the Street Art Suite will be able to commission their own portrait – or other likeness – either in the form of street art or something to add to their private collection. Upon booking a stay in The Street Art Suite, The Dominick will connect guests with Artist Paul Richard and his gallerist for their chosen commission piece. There are various styles, mediums, canvas and locations to consider. Options include a simple 22 x 16 drip-painted portrait on cotton paper, oil on canvas, alterations to “Found Objects” in NYC from street signs to standalone doors and more. The most exciting of all options is the opportunity to turn your own portrait into a lasting piece of NYC street art. Richard will work with guests to select the perfect piece for a private collection or one to admire from the NYC streetscape.
A minimum of 72 hours-advanced reservation is required; highly detailed commissions and street portraits require a minimum of two weeks; based on availability. In some instances, guests may have their commission pre-arranged and ready for viewing upon check-in. Final commission pieces designed for private collections will be sent directly to the location of the guests choosing.

The Street Art Suite is available for booking from November 17, 2022 – March 31, 2023. Priced from $10,000, not inclusive of tax and fees, subject to availability.
The Dominick and Richard are currently planning an elaborate drip painting at The Dominick’s entrance on the corner of Spring and Varick Streets. Also, from his Invisible Man series, The Dominick selected an 80 x 40 daisy-bearing version for The Dominick lobby as part of their permanent collection. A sister piece titled, Invisible Man Selfie, is also installed in the lobby and is available for purchase. Over the next several weeks of the collaboration other elements of the experience will include sharable digital and video content, events and a pop-up gallery for all hotel guests as well as the neighborhood community.
“Walking the nearby blocks and other character-filled neighborhoods in NYC, it’s hard to not come upon a Paul Richard signature black contour drip painting, it’s a classic New York moment,” said Justine McCleery of the artist collaboration. Richard has been leaving his mark on NYC sidewalks and otherwise ordinary street objects for decades. Richard has been commissioned for signature drip as well as fine art portraits by everyone from Marc Jacobs, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Beiber and even the New York City Surrogate’s Court. Richard also made a cameo appearance in Netflix’s “Pretend It’s A City,” with Fran Lebowitz and Martin Scorsese.

“I’ve always looked for interesting mediums and venues to create and display my work. It’s really hard not to be inspired by The Dominick views, even when you’ve been in NYC as long as I have,” said Paul Richard.
